Lovers of the Blues and incredibly well polished musicians are in for a real treat tomorrow night, January 11th at The Circuit in Essex, MD. The Billy Thompson Band has enjoyed some notable press in recent times and currently is on tour. His 2012 CD release, A Better Man,was nominated by Blues Blast Magazine for Contemporary Blues Album of the Year for 2012. This album received excellent reviews nationwide including “Bluesbreaker of the Week” on Dan Aykroyd’s “Elwood’s House of Blues Blues Hour” as well as “B.B. King’s Bluesville’s Pick To Click” for several months. In addition, just recently Blues Festival Guide announced that Billy Thompson Band’s performance of “Further On Up The Road” from this year’s New York State Blues Festival in Syracuse, NY was chosen as their video of the week!
Billy Thompson’s new release, Friend, features some well known musicians such as Bill Payne (J.J. Cale, Little Feat), James “Hutch” Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt, Neville Brothers), and Mike Finnigan (Jimi Hendrix, Jow Cocker) just to name a few notable players. Billy Thompson is considered by many to be a guitar virtuoso and flavors his music with bobbin rhythm and dazzles audiences from the U.S. to Europe with immense skill and passion. Thompson combines catchy licks, grin-pulsing slide guitar, and soulful vocals in an array of musical styles that are sure to satisfy audiences and fans of multiple genres -from Blues to Funk to New Orleans to R&B.
To make this Billy Thompson experience even more special at The Circuit is the show is all for a great cause. This show is a benefit for long time Essex residents, the Waddell family, who recently lost their home in a fire. Lovers of the Blues and great live music in general can enjoy an evening with one of the most talented guitarists and incredible touring bands to come through Essex in a long time -and all to help out a family in need at the same time. Also appearing on the ticket is Tommy McGee, who’s former band The Baby Please was one of Baltimore’s finest local bands playing a multitude of Rock and Blues styles throughout Maryland, and JVMP, who have a few passionate Rock and Blues numbers of their own and are very active in the Baltimore music scene. Tommy McGee and JVMP bring rousing charisma and representation of Baltimore charm to warm up the stage for Billy Thompson.
